Sciatica & Osteopathy - Next Level Health
Thursday, 11 April 2013 01:00

mod1Sciatica is pain in the lower back. The pain of sciatica is typically felt from the low back (lumbar area) to behind the thigh and radiating down below the knee. The symptoms are generally buttock pain and a sharp pain down the back of the thigh and sometimes into the calf. Occasionally, there may be numbness, muscular weakness and tingling in the leg.

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and arises from nerve roots in the lumbar spinal cord in the low back and
extends through the buttock area down to the leg. The pain of sciatica is sometimes referred to as sciatic nerve pain and is produced by pressure onto the nerve which decreases its ability to function.
